XVII. Unified Wire Manager (UM)

4. Licensing Unified Wire Manager

The Unified Wire Manager software has a licensing component, which unlocks the functionality

of the software. On installing the software, and using the Web GUI or CLI, the software is

restricted to work only on the system summary module or system service. The Chelsio cards on

the system are listed, but no management functionality is enabled for them. On completing the

licensing process, and installing a valid license key, all the functionality becomes available.

4.1.1. Licensing model

The licensing is on a per system basis. In a system, at least one licensed Chelsio card has to be

present for the management agent to enable all functionality. Also, license for a particular

system will be valid as long as the Chelsio card used for licensing is present in the system.

4.2. Licensing Management Station

To unlock the functionality of Web Management Interface, you are advised to license the

Management Station.

4.2.1. Licensing using CLI

1. On the system where Management Station is installed, navigate to the mgmt_station

directory:

[root@host]# cd /opt/chelsio/uwire_mgmt/mgmt_station/

2. Execute the following command. It will list the network interface cards present in your

system.

[root@host]# ./chinfotool_lin_64

3. Choose the card for which you want to generate the license and enter the corresponding

number. Make sure that the card is present in the supported card vendor list.

4. The above step will generate an information file in the /etc/ directory with the format

<machine_name>_chelsio_infofile.

5. This information file needs to be sent to Chelsio support, at support@chelsio.com, to receive

a license key.

6. The license key file that is received from Chelsio support needs to be placed in the

/etc/chelsio_uwire directory.

Licensing is optional for localhost. In other words, licensing is not required as

long as the agent and client are running on the same system. Management

functionality is unlocked and fully functional for that particular system.
